Hi there,
Fast forward 12 months… It's December 2024.
How will you know if your team made an impact?
January is the time to figure it out.
⚡ Supercharge of the Week
Remote Octopus recommends using January to clearly identify your annual impact metrics and develop a plan to ensure alignment in data collection.
FIRST
Take a deep dive into your team metrics. Metrics can go by many different names at different companies – OKRs and KPIs are just a few of the names used.
Depending on the size and structure of your team, diving into your metrics might look like:
Pulling up 2024 team KPIs or OKRs.
Evaluating metrics tied to specific 2024 project plans.
Analyzing 2024 company KPIs or OKRs.
Realizing your team or project hasn’t yet identified any 2024 metrics… and setting aside the time to collaboratively write them together!
NEXT
For every metric identified… Where is the data for this metric? And does your team have access to it?
Whether it needs to be measured in December 2024 – or sooner if it’s a time-based, project metric – ensure you have clarity on where the data live for every metric. For example, is this data already part of an existing HubSpot report or dashboard?
Make a list of:
Confusing Metrics… that you are not sure how they will be measured or where the data might be living.
Mystery Metrics… that you know will need additional data collection processes in place in order to be able to effectively measure them at the end of the project or year.
THEN
Collaborate with your team to:
Clarify Confusing Metrics.
How does the team hope to measure this data?
Where might this data already be living and can we readily access it?
Solve Mystery Metrics.
What data collection processes do we need to put into place in January in order to be able to efficiently measure progress at the end of the project or year?
FINALLY
Document everything.
Leveraging whatever knowledge management tool your team uses – Google Doc, Notion, Confluence, etc. – ensure you clearly identify the team’s decisions:
How the team hopes to measure progress.
Where the data is already living.
Which data collection processes are being built – and by who and by when – in order to efficiently measure progress.
Bonus points if you keep your documentation close to where colleagues view the metric.
Now it’s time to kickoff whichever new data collection processes need to be built!
🚀 Remote Octopus Resource of the Week
Ever been in the middle of a project and realized key stakeholders have opposite ideas on everything from the target audience to key deliverables? Maybe that’s happening right now!
Over 10% of resources are wasted as a result of subpar project management practices… Don’t let that be your team. Recent research shows that companies who build effective project management strategies are more likely to meet project objectives, stay on budget, and deliver on time.
