Hi there,

Who else has 50 tabs open at once?

Sometimes we forget which tabs are open. (Please tell me this isn’t just me.)

And then we’re working fast and without thinking we ask a colleague for a URL – which we then realize we already have open in 3 different tabs. Oops.

While this feels small, it can be a costly mistake.

⚡ Supercharge of the Week

Remote Octopus recommends pausing for 10 seconds to consider if you already have access to a document before requesting the link from a colleague.

Why?

In Slack, when we’re moving quickly, we often ask a colleague: Wait, do you have that doc link?

They pause their work. They context switch to find the URL. They drop the URL in Slack.

Did you know that context switching like this can cost 23 minutes of lost time to refocus on a task?

Save your colleague those 23 minutes.

And the whole time that exact URL was buried in your sea of tabs. Or it was linked within the project agenda. Or shared this morning on the team channel. Or bookmarked to the Slack channel.

The point is: URLs are everywhere.

If you’re looking for a specific doc, pause for 10 seconds to consider if you might have the URL already hidden in one of these places. Self-service. Take a look in 1-2 places.

Still can’t find it? Now is a good time to ask your colleague especially if you know they’re using the doc frequently.

What feels like a quick do you have that link? message can turn into a massive detriment to team productivity. Spend those 10 seconds to save your colleague those lost 23 minutes.
